Despite passage of the Affordable Care Act, access to healthcare across Washington continues to be a challenge. Many are now covered by Medicaid, but Washington does not have enough Medicaid providers to care to all patients.
Additionally, for people whose income falls between 139% and 200% of the federal poverty level, the cost of the healthcare premiums and copays are not affordable. For undocumented workers and legal immigrants new to the United States, the Affordable Care Act provides no healthcare support.
Hundreds of thousands of patients are still without access to healthcare and many are served exclusively through the work of free and charitable clinics.
For more information about Washington's healthcare safety net, please see our 2016 report, An Assessment of Primary Care Capacity in Washington State.
We support the free and charitable heatlhcare organizations that provide care for people left out of the current system.
